The First of Many, I Hope...

I have always been a crappy journal-keeper. I'm hoping that this modern journal medium will somehow prove to be easier or more motivating for me. I am primarily starting this blog in order to keep track of our fleeting lives for our son, Caelan and our other future children. I think it will be such a gift to be able to look back at the every day occurrences of our young family and remember how young, crazy or naive we may be right now.

Sometimes I feel like such an old lady, being the first in my graduating high school class to get married or have a baby. I also feel like the luckiest. I am the first to know this crazy, crazy love and everything that comes with it. So that I don't take a single day for granted, I will do my best to record our lucky, lovely, rocky, sad, happy, and desperate moments here. It will help me in the future to remember that no matter how rough things get sometimes, so long as we have this family, everything is always going to be alright.

Here's to life and wherever it will lead. To you, Caelan and your future brothers and sisters. To Our Family.

OOOooo! OOOooo! We get to make the first comments on your blog! How high-tech of us!

This is a cool concept - - - But to get 'some sociological observations' out of the way right up front - it's a far cry from the days of our grandparents and great grandparents, when generations lived under one roof or down the street from each other and saw each other in person more often than not. (But even in those days - our forefathers left - for good - often moving to another continent - striking out boldly on their own was what put all of us here!) That said - absence DOES make the heart grow fonder - and it's awfully nice to have this opportunity to share the experiences of a young couple setting out for the first time on their own, building a life together and being able to share and enjoy it. Now, is when we get to enjoy the fruits of our labor as parents watching you guys apply what you absorbed from your youth. There's a balance to be sought between the independent nature that was the American ideal and staying in close touch with those in our lives. Thanks to the internet, communication can take place at the stroke of a keyboard or the click of a mouse - so I'd like to join Punky Brewster (Ask your parents Caelan!) in challenging everyone invited to this blog to participate. Don't hide behind your keyboard and mouse... COMMUNICATE with the greatest communication device ever afforded us! (Thank you Mr. Gates!) Take 5 minutes from your life and share.

Enough of that! So I guess the theory is that someday, this will have accumulated into a broad collection of observations throughout the cumulative Roberts-Cropper lives of Geoff, Erin, Caelan & ???? (by the way - does anyone back this stuff up!!!???)

Well it's Saturday, September 27th, 2008 as I write this and Caelan's Grandpa Roberts is in the hospital recuperating from a surgery - and he is forefront on our minds. Get well Gardy!

All is well and wonderful here in beautiful Black Mountain, NC. Truly the mountains and nature that abound around us are all the soul needs for nourishment. We're all looking forward to our trip to your house/(Great)Grandma & Grandpa Cropper's house (who won't be there because they'll be in Scottsdale, AZ sharing the holiday with my sister Mary Ann - LOOK THAT ONE UP on your family tree - I'm not even sure what Mary Ann is to Caelan!!!! Great Aunt I guess???)

OK.. let's see if this gets the 'written communications cube' that is America 2008 rolling! Blog-on! Peace and Love - Mom, Dad, Jim, Sue, Nana & Poppy... call us what you will!
